Woolpert is one of the premier architecture, engineering, geospatial (AEG) and strategic consulting firms in the world, providing resources, expertise, and innovative and robust solutions to their clients. A previous vendor had delivered a financial reporting dashboard that was dense, difficult to use, and did not provide value. They asked us to re-envision the product and provide improvements.

Challenges

• Previous vendor did not deliver the vision, and did not follow the Woolpert expecttions
• Text and information was dense, illogically organized, and difficult to access and use
• Charts were non-comparative, and did not provide value

Virtualized Research & Discovery

Due to Covid restrictions, all working sessions with the main stakeholders were made remote to assess and identify current business processes, data flow, and reporting requirements. UX workshops and interviews are essential to gather information, and throughout the pandemic we learned that collecting these insights remotely can be a challenge. Knowing how to facilitate, structure questions and sessions, and leverage remote tools such as "Miro" replaced much of the value gained through live interaction. 

We Identified the most beneficial financial data and assembled rough dashboard layouts through active digital whiteboard (Miro) sketching and the use of digital sticky notes

Solution

The dashboard summarizes and interprets (and not just reports) the numbers, making financial data easily accessible.

Detailed View Report is a multi-perspective view into a dataset, with visuals that represent different findings and insights from that dataset

Tabular Report is organized and displays information from a relational database in a multicolumn, multi-row format, with each column corresponding to a column in the database table
